Category: Help Yourself

Tonight I received a moving comment on this blog from Judy, 60 years old and recovering from anorexia. Open Letter to Judy Here is my open letter in response to her. I hope this conversation invites other older women, still living in the shadows of their eating disorder, to step out into recovery.

researchMental Health Insurance: Research Your Policy

If you want or need (or both) financial reimbursement for part of your psychotherapy treatment please research your insurance policy. Insurance policies define who and what they will cover in terms of mental health. This is not determined by the service provider, but is determined by your insurance company and your particular policy.

Three Main Categories of Policies Related to Mental Health Insurance

Some policies, like PPO policies, cover a certain amount of the mental health provider's fee when you use a service provider included on the insurance company list of preferred providers.

National Public Radio, NPR, is running an excellent story, ' Countering The Online World Of 'Pro-Anorexia' by Alex Cohen, in support of eating disorder awareness week. It's also running a 12-minute, 23-second video.

Both are part of NPR's valiant effort to bring awareness to the public about pro-ana (supporting anorexia) and pro-mia (supporting bulimia) websites.
