For me, I am often tempted to binge to avoid doing some responsible adult task that I think I "should" be doing. However, I have an endless list of To Dos and I never give myself permission to relax or indulge in "frivolous" activities until all my work and chores are done. The conflict comes because sometimes I just don't have the energy or motivation to do one of my "shoulds" at a particular moment, but I won't allow myself to do something pleasurable instead, so I rebel against the whole thing by binging! Thus I have to be careful about what I choose to do instead of binging. I'd love it if I could channel my binging energy into organizing my closet, but it might be that organizing my closet is what I'm tempted to avoid by binging! On the other hand, if I'm avoiding a work project that I really do need to work on, it feels wrong to do something nice for myself like taking a bath- then I feel like I'm rewarding myself for procrastinating. Of course, if I binged I wouldn't be doing my work project either- AND I'd be wrecking myself physically and making me less effective at work later in the day, or the next day. So I've come to the conclusion that pretty much ANY activity is better than binging- and I need to be kinder to myself in choosing not to binge.
