Dear Tracy,
Your therapist is your therapist. In that position in your life she will play many roles for you because you will see her differently and experience her differently as your mood changes and as various issues come up or are resolved.
By guides I mean people and characters who can inspire you and/or supply you with missing kinds of needed wisdom, courage, tenderness, respect, etc.
For example, one long and sturdy "guide" of mine is Winston Churchill. I read his words, feel like I get to know the man, and learn from his experience in the world. In the past I used children's stories to help fill in some of my blanks in healthy development.
One of my favorite series to recommend is the Babysitter's Club. The older girls and the "Little Sister" series might be nice for you now - to find out how to look at issues and experience young growth in a supportive environment.
Might be nice bedtime reading for you. :)
Tip: always write down the number and code of the book you read. I had to stop because I lost track, and there are so many!
